University of Utah Library Administration records 1863-1973

The University of Deseret Library opened October 19, 1874, the majority of its holdings being the private collection of President John R. Park. The University of Deseret became the University of Utah in 1892. In 1894 these holdings were formally given to the University of Utah Library. The first Library Building was opened in 1900. This was succeeded by the George Thomas Library in 1935 and the current Marriott Library in 1968. This collection contains accession records, meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, circulation records, accounting records, reports and other administrative records of the University of Utah Libraries. Included are records of the Utah State Library Commission (1948-1966) of which Ralph D. Thompson was a member.
